26.7. Sunnuntai
Illalla syntyi ajatus: moottoripyörällä Etelä-Suomeen. Saksan matka jouduttiin perumaan, kun ei ollut karttoja eikä passeja. Tanskaan olisi päässyt ilman passeja, mutta Suomi-matkaan päädyttiin.

27.7. Maanantai
Lähtö tapahtui klo 14.09. Mittarissa 14.490 km.
Matkalle ilman P:n makuupussia ja minunkin makuupussi jätettiin Ouluun. Kuormaa oli liikaa tai siis liian pieni ajopeli. Kemissä 14.40. Lääninrajalla 15.15. Ja sitten puhkesi rengas takaa 15.45. Paikka oli irronnut kuumuuden takia. Ja sen läheisyydessä oli toinen reikä. Näihin kohtiin pantiin paikat ja matka jatkui 16.50. Oulussa 17.45. Keskusbaarissa söimme puurot ja kahvittelimme. 28.7. Tiistai
Nousimme klo 7. Motoristin toivesää ulkona, ei pilviä eikä tuulta. Pukeuduimme turisteiksi ja lähdimme Vuokattiin. Tiet olivat rakenteilla, mutta pääsimme perille Urheiluopistolle. Majoituimme leirintä-alueelle ja huomasimme opiston takana seisakkeen, jolla oli hauska nimi: Latu. Sitten piipahdimme Sotkamoon, säästöpankista nostin 5000 mk. Cornet oli mielenkiinnon kohteena, eihän näin komeita motskareita juuri liiku sielläpäin, jawoja kylläkin ja ifoja. 14.30 lähdimme taas kohti etelää, mutta ennen sitä vielä kiristin kettingit ja täytin tankin. 16.30 söimme puuroa Iisalmen kaupungissa. Mökille olikin vaikea osua, se oli parikymmentä kilometriä Kuopiosta etelään. Saunakin oli lämmin, kun sinne saavuimme 22.10.

29.7. Keskiviikko
Aamulla heräsimme Valtterin aamutoimiin. Mökissä oli myös Valtterin tyttärenpoika Jari. Kävimme heti uimishommiin, sitten kalastimme ahvenia ja särkiä. Kalat tarvittiin rapumertoihin. Kahteen viikkoon ei ollut satanut, mutta nyt satoi. Pyysimme jäädä vielä sateen takia yhdeksi yöksi. Eno tarjoili meille mansikoita eri muodoissa. 30.7. Torstai
Aamulla peseydyimme Shellillä ja söimme puuroa. Vihavaisen firmasta saatiin ostaa puuttuvat kettingin osat ja kettinki tuli kuntoon. 9.30 lähdimmekin sitten jo matkaan. 11.30 olimme Mikkelin uudella Essolla ja tankkasimme. Talo tarjosi avajaiskahvit kakkupalojen kera. Rautatieasemalla kävimme lähettämässä kortteja kotiinpäin. 12.30 matka taas jatkui. Ja tiet olivat kehnonlaisia edelleen. 31.7. Perjantai
Aamulla lähdimme bussilla Hesaan. Ostin uudet kettingit ja P osti nuotteja Aleksilta. Söimme Elannon baarissa, joka oli paras ja halvin tällä retkellä. Marssimme Helsingin Sanomat – nimisen lehden pääkonttoriin ja jätin Cornetin myynti-ilmoituksen. Sitten ajettiin ratikalla Messuhallille ja edelleen uimastadionille uimaan. Vaihdoimme kettingit pyörään illalla. Selvitimme sen jälkeen eläkkeellä olevan opettajamme Anna Jaakonsaaren osoitteen. Lähdimme pyörällä kohti Helsinkiä, mutta sitten loppui virta. Jätimme pyörän Pakilan Unionille ja jatkoimme bussilla. P lähti tapaamaan Oskua ja minä lähdin katsomaan Cornetia.

1.8. Lauantai
Nousimme myöhään, vasta 11:n maissa. Sitten mentiin huoltoasemalle pesemään pyörää myyntikuntoon ja sen jälkeen metsästettiin Oskua, joka oli 3000 mk velkaa P:lle. Sitä varten ajoimme Lauttasaareen ja Munkkiniemeen. Osku oli kadonnut. Tulimme takaisin keskustaan. Mannerheimintieltä aloin kääntyä Espalle, mutta väärin. Se olikin pohjoisesplanadi. Siinä sattui olemaan poliisi ohjaamassa. Sitten vielä rekisterikilpikin puuttui. No selittelyt auttoivat ja me veimme pyörän aseman eteen parkkiin. Sitten ajoimme myöhemmin Tikkurilaan ja saimme puhelimella tietää, että Anna asuu Kuusitie 9:ssä. Pistäydyimme opettajan luona syömässä ja kahvilla. Saunassakin saimme käydä, olipa hauska pariskunta Annan luona. Sitten heitimme nuolta, söimme viinimarjoja ja silittelimme tottelevaista paimenkoiraa, jonka nimi oli Benelope von Durchman, Nortti.

2.8. Sunnuntai
Aloitimme kaurapuurolla ja kahvilla klo 9. Sitten haimme Cornetin, pyyhin pölyt ja vahasin sen. Klo 11 olimme Rautatientorilla sitä esittelemässä. Ostajaehdokkaita kävi kaikkiaan kuusi. Olivat luulleet TWN Cornetiani cross-pyöräksi. Yksi tarjosi 40 tuhatta ja Tunturi-mopoa. Kolmelta ajoimme Tikkurilaan.

3.8. Maanantai
Rouva Barck oli keittänyt meille kahvit termuskannuun. Sitten lähdimme Kangasniemelle. Rouva Kangasniemi oli kattanut meille vihannespöydän. Pidimme sadetta jonkun aikaa ja sateen jälkeen lähdimme postiin, koska meille oli tullut sinne postiosoituksella rahaa. Skohan lippupalvelusta kävin hakemassa liput yleisurheilumaaotteluun Unkari-Suomi. Bussissa istuessani näin ojassa moottoripyörän ja suuren verilätäkön, ei ihme, ainakin 20 metrin lento. 4.8. Tiistai

Joitakin kirjauksia päiväkirjaan tuli tehtyä: Suomi yllätti satasella, Vuorisalo kangistui 1500:lla, kuulantyöntäjät loistivat, Rekola voitti, Hellsten kolmanneksi, Höykinpuron katkeaminen ja Huttunen voimaton sekä Salmisen ylivoima moukarissa. Ensimmäisen ottelupäivän jälkeen ajoimme Linnanmäelle, missä Little Gerhard lopetti juuri konserttinsa.

5.8. Keskiviikko
Ohjelmassa oli käynnit Suomenlinnassa, Korkeasaaressa, Kansallismuseossa, Eduskuntatalossa ja Stadionilla. Tulimme Cornetilla Presidentinlinnan viereen, silloin huusi minua joku nimellä, Junturan Ossi asepuvussa, Suomenlinnassa palvelustaan suorittamassa. Hän oli vielä kesakuussa kanssani Hellälässä uittamassa tukkeja. Pari muuta torniolaista oli myös, Rantalan Osmo ja Aution Raimo. Ossi lähetti mukanani terveiset serkulleni Järvelinin Karille. Menimme maaotteluun Suomenlinnan jälkeen. Stadion oli lähes täysi. Ossi Mildh loisti 400:n aidoissa, ohitti loppusuoralla kaikki. Torniolaisia nähtiin stadionilla tai sen tuntumassa useita: Stormbomin Jens ja Arno, Honkasen Kauko ja Kanervan Seppo ainakin. Stadionilta mentiin Linnanmäelle.

6.8. Torstai
Pyydetty herätys tuli 7.45. Meitä on täällä Hesassa tai sen liepeillä pidetty kuin piispaa pappilassa, Barckit, Anna, Arthur, Maire jne. Pakkailimme reppuja ja nautimme siinä sivussa pullakahveja täysinäisiin vatsoihimme. Edellisen illan kolme lautasellista kaalikeittoa ja muutama lautasellinen lettuja eivät vielä olleet kokonaan jättäneet meitä rauhaan. Klo 10 jätimme Helsingin ja mittarissa oli 15.862 km, havaitsimme, että ainakin minun käsineet ja P:n villapaita olivat jääneet. Mutta emme lähteneet niitä noutamaan. Nummen pitäjässä vaihdoin moottoriin öljyt. Matkasimme kohti Turkua. Turusta taas ajettiin kohti Tamperetta. Tauolla kiristin myös uusia ketjuja, ettei kävisi taas… Tulimme Vammalaan, etsimme Lappalaisen sukulaisen, Savolaisen. Isäntä tuli vastaan mopolla ja ajoi edellämme sitten kotiinsa. P:n Alpo-eno laittoi meille pellistä tilapäisen rekisterikilven, oikein hyvän ja Eero-eno maalautti sen.

7.8. Perjantai
Vammalan kärpäset ovat kohta pahempia kuin Korpulan sääsket ja paarmat, joihin tutustuin Ruovedellä. Aamupesun jälkeen menimme aamuvoimisteluun läheiselle tanssilavalle. Kiertelimme P:n sukulaisia sen päivän. Kaalikeittoa saimme taas kylliksemme ja jälkiruuaksi lettuja. Saunaa lämmittäessä aloimme suunnitella seuraavan päivän paluuta pohjoiseen. Tankki piti täyttää, sillä aamulla lähtisimme niin varhain, että huoltoasemat olisivat vielä kiinni.

8.8. Lauantai
Herätys 2.50 Siemasimme kahvit termospullosta. Mittarissa oli 16.190 km. Ajoa oli kertynyt 1700 km ja jäljellä 800 km. Kilometrin ajon jälkeen palattiin hakemaan taas kameraa. Yksitoikkoista ajoa, paitsi että muutaman kerran pumpattiin ilmaa takarenkaaseen. Seinäjoelle päästiin, mittarissa 16.406 km. Ostin uuden takarenkaan ja jatkettiin matkaa. Uusikaarlepyyn, Pietarsaaren ja Kokkolan kautta eteenpäin. Aurinko paistoi pilvettömältä taivaalta ja vaikka kypärä suojasi pahimmalta paisteelta, väsymys iski Raahen kohdalla. P herätti minut unesta koputtamalla selkään, kun ajoimme pientareella, siis tien ulkopuolella. Pysähdyimme lepäämään. Ouluun kuitenkin saavuimme 16.40, olimme jo olleet matkassa yli 12 tuntia. Haimme säilöstä makuupussin, jonka olimme menomatkalla sinne jättäneet. Viimeisillä matkarahoilla ostetut bensat eivät ehkä olisi riittäneet, mutta tankkaaja laittoi vahingossa puoli litraa liikaa. Koko päivänä ei syöty mitään, koska rahojen piti riittää bensaan ja takarenkaaseen. Lauantai-illan saunaan pääsimme sopivasti ja kyllä sauna maistuikin.
